In preparation for the NCMA's upcoming exhibit Porsche by Design: Seducing Speed (which will run October through January), the museum has added several car-centric films to its summer lineup. This 1973 George Lucas classic of romance, racing and rock 'n' roll chronicles one last day of cruising through the streets of small-town California in the summer of 1962 for a pack of teens, just before they take their first steps out of town and into college. Stars include Ron Howard, Richard Dreyfuss, Mackenzie Phillips, Harrison Ford, Wolfman Jack and Cindy Williams. Roger Ebert once wrote of the film, "No sociological treatise could duplicate the movie's success in remembering exactly how it was to be alive at that cultural instant." Likewise, American Graffiti asks viewers, "Where were you in '62?" Well, I wasn't alive, but for a nostalgia-packed couple of hours, I can feel as though I was. 9 —Mary Alta Feddeman
