Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry

When: Thu., Jan. 10, 7:30 p.m. 2013

As China's most notorious dissident artist, Ai Weiwei leads a very strange life. His world-famous contemporary art installations have earned him fame and fortune in his native land; he's the pride of Beijing. But his outspoken political activism has resulted in constant surveillance, occasional detention and even physical attacks by Chinese authorities. Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry profiles two chaotic years in the life of the genial but tenacious activist as he makes art and throws rocks at the throne. Weiwei has described his work as an extended chess match with his own government, and first-time director Alison Klayman films the gamesmanship brilliantly. The film recently made the Oscar short list for Best Documentary. This free 7:30 p.m. screening is part of the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival's Winter Series. —Glenn McDonald
