ADF: Brenda Angiel Aerial Dance Company

When: July 8-10, 8 p.m. and Sat., July 10, 1 p.m. 2010

When people hear that wires are used in a dance performance, they inevitably think of Cirque du Soleil. But Brenda Angiel's company uses them in a way that enhances (rather than overshadows) the performances, with a good deal more restraint in presentation. The Buenos Aires-based company has performed all over the world in dance festivals since 1998. At this year's American Dance Festival, the company presents the North American premiere of 8cho (2010). The work marries aerial performances with traditional dances, such as waltzes and milongas, and features traditional music and dancers interacting in partners and trios. The wires allow the dancers to move in graceful acrobatics. A live band and a vocalist will provide accompaniment. —Sarah Ewald
