Addicts Anonymous | Common Ground Theatre | Stage | Indy Week

Addicts Anonymous

When: Sat., March 2, 8 p.m. 2013

At Addicts Anonymous, the audience begins by picking its poison for the evening: Booze? Boys? Stalking exes on Facebook? What follows will be a long-form, entirely improvised play that springs out of this audience-selected addiction, beginning at a 12-step program meeting and tracking the relationships, struggles and triumphs of the program participants. If you think improvisational theater is solely the domain of comedy sketches and party games, local stalwarts Transactors Improv, billed as the oldest active improv company in the South, will prove you wrong. Known for fusing the silly with the serious, the company presents this spontaneous play as part of Transactors Experimental Theater, a kind of "improv incubator" designed to push artistic boundaries and explore new performance forms. There will be moments of levity, moments of gravity and lots of thinking-on-feet. —Emma Miller
