FILM: ACOUSTIC WITH NEKO CASE

CAROLINA THEATRE, DURHAM | MONDAY, FEB. 23

A frustrated punk, a top-secret cargo, a beloved 1964 Chevy—these stray details from the movie Repo Man could just as easily populate a Neko Case ballad. Case, an Americana singer lauded for her mastery of the surreal as well as the heartfelt, chose the '80s cult flick for her appearance in Film: Acoustic, a series where musicians screen and discuss films that influenced them. Case follows the likes of Lucinda Williams on Wise Blood and Wayne Coyne on The Night Porter. The series is programmed by The Modern School of Film, a New York-based organization that states its goal as "bringing concentrated film talk back to cinemas." Special guest Michael Nesmith, of The Monkees fame, was the executive producer of Repo Man, and he will also be present to reflect on the legacy of this punk-rock, sci-fi comedy classic. 7 p.m., $15, 309 W. Morgan St., Durham, 919-560-3030, www.carolinatheatre.org. —Ashley Melzer
