The Street Poets Society is hosting In the Park, a groundbreaking session of spoken word/poetry and African drumming.
Based on the artistic aspects of African culture, the society is an African-centered group of brothers and sisters who join together for the love of the written and spoken word. In the Park is an African-drum-blaring, open-mic-sharing experience showcasing the poetry of the African-American community.
Filled with inspiration from such writers as Hughes and Du Bois, these poets and musicians explore the struggles and triumphs of Afro-centric thought through their own words for all to enjoy.
Sunday, July 13, 6 p.m. until dusk. Chavis Park, 506 MLK Boulevard (two blocks from Shaw University), Raleigh. 217-1646 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
