Looking to escape the Triangle this weekend? The Brazilian Social Club's annual Brazilian Carnaval gives locals the chance to experience the Mardi Gras-esque street festival that takes place in the 40 days leading up to Lent. At the celebration this Saturday, learn typical Carnaval street dances to the live samba beat of Energia Brasil, try your hand at various Carnaval instruments in the "rhythm exposé," get mesmerized by a demonstration of Capoeira (the dance-like Afro-Brazilian form of martial arts) and treat your palate to hot Brazilian hors d'oeuvres. Carnaval is an event for the whole family--come out this Saturday and feel like you've taken a quick South American vacation. 8 p.m.-midnight, The Century Center, 100 N. Greensboro St., Carrboro. 968-6142. $10.
