Stage Combat Workshop

Many may not be aware that in addition to putting on plays, the famous Raleigh Little Theatre offers classes and workshops as well. Acting technique, scene study, monologues, stuff for the serious student of theatre, right? Wrong. This weekend, instructors Christopher Beaulieu and Jess Pillmore will hold a workshop in stage combat that is designed for the beginner-level fake fighter. Not only will students learn the basics of dramatic unarmed warfare--slaps, punches, rolls, and falls--they will also be trained in different styles of weaponry and have the opportunity to choreograph their very own original fight sequence. Instead of going to the movies and watching Jackie Chan bounce all over the screen, why not learn to do it yourself? It's good, clean fun, and nobody gets hurt--they just appear to.

The workshop takes place Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 22 and 23, from 2-5 p.m. at Raleigh Little Theatre, 301 Pogue St., Raleigh. Cost is $95. Call 821-4579 or visit raleighlittletheatre.org for more information.
