Poetry: A Place to Start

The North Carolina Writers' Network (NCWN) is a 19-year-old nonprofit organization that offers services and resources, including writers outreach workshops, conferences and manuscript critiques/consultations, for writers at varying stages of development. On Saturday, Oct. 12, the group will offer an informal workshop titled Poetry: A Place to Start, led by local writer and visual artist Maggi Grace. Grace--who has taught creative writing courses through Duke University's Office of Continuing Education and the ArtsCenter's ArtSchool--will work with beginning poets on tapping into sources for inspiration, hands on exercises and the basics of writing and rewriting. Participants will have time to write and read their finished works aloud. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. NCWN Library and Resource Center, 3501 Hwy. 54 West, Chapel Hill. Contact Carol Henderson 967-9540 for more information. www.ncwriters.org. $75, $70 NCWN members. --olufunke moses
