First Meeting of the altReader Book Club

We here at The Independent aren't waiting around for Oprah to get off her tush to revive her book club; we're starting our own--and we're not taking a percentage off the top. In cooperation with the Regulator Bookshop in Durham, we bring you the altReader Book Club, the aim of which is to get all Triangle readers on the same page, literally. Local writers and leaders will pick one book a month, to be discussed at the Regulator by the person who chose it. This month is writer Clyde Edgerton's pick, I Am One of You Forever, a book of fiction by North Carolina Poet Laureate Fred Chappell. If you haven't started reading yet, it's not too late. Be prepared to discuss, compare and contrast, and be enriched with Clyde this Friday, Sept. 13, at the Regulator, 720 Ninth Street. The whole Triangle's invited. And stay tuned for October's pick. Call 286-2700 for details. --Laura Hatmaker
