Imagine, Construct, Play
Exploris' newest exhibit showcases more than 200 toys made by young people in over 30 countries. Toys have been loaned or donated to Exploris by the Bolgataga Senior Secondary School in Ghana, the Jardin de Niños Maria Manjarrez School in Mexico, and others. (A doll made from banana fibers and cloth by Kenya's Lidiah Wanjiku, age 7, is pictured above.) The exhibit is divided into four categories, delineating different areas of imagination and play: "Once Upon a Time" features toys dealing with role-playing, such as dolls; "Spin, Spin, Spin" includes toys that spin or move, such as propellers and mobiles; "Zoom, Zoom, Zoom" displays toys that represent forms of transportation, like planes, trucks and boats; and "Stop, Look, and Listen" features musical instruments. Bring the kids to the Exploris museum in Raleigh now through Sept. 9 to see this fun exhibit. Call 834-4040 for details.
