Beginning this week, Shakespeare & Originals Theatre Company will be presenting Prufrock, an original staging of the poetry of T.S. Eliot (and no, there won't be any singing cats). Prufrock is a series of four "what-if's" between the subject of Eliot's "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" and four women: the woman he loved and was too afraid to be with; the woman he was with who went mad, a woman he meets at a brothel, where he finds religious inspiration; and a creature who turns out to be a Siren. "I picked the hardest thing that you could try to stage because it's so metaphysical," says director Jay O'Berski. "And I wanted to try to create a concrete unity out of something that was cyclical, dreamlike and unfathomable." The eight actors who will present these relationships include Lissa Brennan, Cynthia DeMiranda, Jeffrey Scott Detweiler, Elizabeth Haydn-Jones, Derrick Ivey, Rick Lonon, Tom Marriott and Meredith Sause (Marriott and Haydn-Jones are pictured above). See them Feb. 11 and 12 at the Pittsboro General Store, Feb. 14-16 at The Chapel of the Cross in Chapel Hill, and Feb. 17 and 18 at Manbites Dog Theater in Durham. All performances begin at 8 p.m. Call 286-0456 for details.
