A Taste of Honey

When: April 21-May 5 2012

They weren't called "angry young men" for nothing. Most of the playwrights, and their decidedly pugilistic antiheroes, in what became known as the Kitchen Sink School of British theater were decidedly male. But at 18, Shelagh Delaney elbowed her way into the mix with her first play, the domestic drama A Taste Of Honey, in 1958.

With its withering cross-examination of family values among a quintet of characters representing a mix of generations, genders, races and sexual orientations, add Honey to the list of productions that Amendment 1 supporters should see ... but probably won't. Their loss. And ours.

Jeff Alguire directs a cast including J Evarts, Kashif Powell and Jenn Evans. Performances are at 8 p.m. this Friday–Saturday and Thursdays–Saturdays through May 5, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, April 29. —Byron Woods
