A Season of Japan

When: Sept. 6-Jan. 6 2013

Boasting one of the best collections of Asian art in the Southeast, the Ackland celebrates a groundbreaking series of exhibitions throughout the fall focused on the art and culture of Japan. A Season of Japan consists of 10 separate shows, including current exhibitions of postwar posters, animated films from the 1960s and '70s, modern prints, ceramics of dazzling variety and screens and scrolls dating to the 13th century. A phenomenal partnership of collectors and curators provides this unique look into the ethos and mythos of the land of the rising sun. The opening reception features food, music and traditional drumming by the ensemble Triangle Taiko. —Chris Vitiello
