3D Weekend

When: March 9-10 2013

Despite the many HD screens in your life, admit it, you miss your Viewmaster. Indulge that nostalgia for old-school 3D viewing at this fun and varied program from Durham Cinematheque's Tom Whiteside. From 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m.–5 p.m. Sunday, he'll show off antique and new stereographic slides; Durham photographers Karen and Chris Ciccone will share Viewmaster and Stereo Realist viewers and images. The Ciccones offer their own 3D photographs as well, plus a tour of commercial images. Come back either night at 7 for the microcinema screening of "Spectacle and Invention" (seating limited, reservations required). The Ciccones will project 3D slides, a documentary tour of early cinema featuring Muybridge, Edison and the Lumière brothers will be shown, and Whiteside will debut a double-screen presentation of experimental animation. Bring your red-and-blue glasses to the space at 305 E. Chapel Hill St. Daytime events free, donation requested. —Chris Vitiello
