27 Views of Hillsborough

When: Fri., June 11, 7 p.m. 2010

It's appropriate to sing praises of one's home, and there are probably tomes devoted to every major city in the world. But even if the area isn't considered a key player by the major world centers, it will still have its devoted group of rabid loyalists. Hillsborough has long been a place where prominent writers, including husband-and-wife team Hal Crowther and Lee Smith and nationally known novelist Allan Gurganus, have settled, and each of them has contributed to this collection. Published, appropriately enough, by the homegrown Eno Publishers, the book features 27 writers paying tribute to the town through prose and poetry. Just as Sex and the City features New York as a fifth player, Hillsborough looms large as the writers examine their surroundings, from a house purchased to the greater town itself. Contributors on hand will include Hillsborough native Beverly A. Scarlett, Bob Burtman, Michael Malone and regular Indy contributor John Valentine. —Sarah Ewald
