20 Buck Chuck | SPECTRE Arts | Arts | Indy Week

20 Buck Chuck

When: Fri., Dec. 12, 6-9 p.m. 2014

SPECTRE ARTSLet's face it: Even local art is expensive. Paintings that cost hundreds of dollars are luxury items, out of reach for many who would enjoy them. If you'd like to deck the halls on the cheap this holiday season, Durham gallery SPECTRE Arts can get you started in its second 20 Buck Chuck sale, where you can buy an original piece for $20 directly from a Triangle artist. Some of them are creating work specifically for the event. You'll find editioned prints, sculptures, letterpress-printed books and much more. Contributing artists include Bill Thelen, Erika Wilson and Harrison Haynes (disclosure: INDY photographer Jeremy M. Lange is also in the show). There will be music from DJ Maxx Beave, meat and veggie food from Dang Good Dogs, and beer, wine and cider on sale. Last year's 20 Buck Chuck established a family-friendly vibe; that continues this year with a craft table and a piñata for kids, who could probably afford to take something home on an allowance-money budget. 6–9 p.m., free–$20, 1004 Morning Glory Ave., 919-213-1441, www.spectrearts.org. —Brian Howe
