1*9*5*6 Degrees of Separation

When: June 20-24 2012

As filmmaker Nicholas Roeg played random access with the 1950s in his film adaptation of Terry Johnson's Insignificance, Roy Cohn almost got his teeth bashed in by Joe DiMaggio while Albert Einstein made time with Marilyn Monroe on a hot never-night in New York City. Dance/theater choreographer Killian Manning crosswires the cultural switchboard of the same era in her new work, 1*9*5*6 Degrees of Separation. Will Jack Kennedy take the gold at the Melbourne Summer Olympics? Can Nikita Khrushchev's career possibly survive the quiz show scandal hearings? And what's on the agenda and the menu when an extra-innings summit between Grace Kelly, Ms. Monroe and prima ballerina Margot Fonteyn turns into a slumber party? A multidisciplinary cast including Marcia Edmundson, Derrick Ivey, Nicola Bullock and Leigh Hall explores these notions in performances at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and at 3:15 p.m. Sunday. Tickets run $12–$17. —Byron Woods
