The Great American Beer Festival—which features probably the most prestigious competition in the craft brewing industry, drawing nearly eight thousand entries in ninety-nine categories—took place this weekend in Denver. And while North Carolina breweries didn’t earn as much hardware as, say, Oregon, whose breweries nabbed seventeen medals, including seven golds, we did all right for ourselves.

Across the state, N.C. breweries grabbed fifteen medals, including four golds and three silvers. Three of those winners—Lynwood Brewing Concern, Bond Brothers Beer Company, and Lonerider Brewing Company—are from the Triangle.

The winners (with locals on top) are:
  • Lynwood Brewing Concern (Raleigh), Saison Du Bois, gold medal, American-Belgo-Style Ale
  • Lynwood Brewing Concern (Raleigh), Mosaic Pale Ale, silver medal, American-Style Pale Ale
  • Bond Brothers Beer Company (Cary), Disenchantment Blend #1, silver medal, American-Style Sour Ale
  • Lonerider Brewing Company (Raleigh), Goldie’s Big Bock, bronze medal, German-Style Doppelbock or Eisbock
  • The Sycamore Brewing Cannery (Charlotte), Sun Grown Fresh Craft Lager, bronze medal, American-Style Lager or Malt Liquor (PBR took the silver in this category, FWIW)
  • Sycamore Brewing (Charlotte), Sun Grown, bronze medal, Light Lager
  • Hillman Beer (Asheville), Four Fat Baby, bronze medal, Belgian-Style Dubel or Quadruple
  • BearWaters Brewing Company (Canton), Smells Like Money, bronze medal, Belgian-Style Strong Specialty Ale
  • Foothills Brewing Company (Winston-Salem), Torch Pilsner, bronze medal, Bohemian-Style Pilsner
  • Currahee Brewing Company (Franklin), Kawi, bronze medal, Coffee Stout or Porter
  • Wedge Brewing Company (Asheville), Asheville Lager, gold medal, German-Style Maerzen
  • New Sarum Brewing (Salisbury), Lemon Balm and Beets Wheat, gold medal, Herb and Spice Beer
  • Duck-Rabbit Craft Brewery (Farmville), Wee Heavy Scotch Style Ale, silver medal, Scotch Ale
    •    The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery (Charlotte), Hornet’s Nest, bronze medal, South German-Style Hefeweizen
    •    Appalachian Mountain Brewery (Boone), Boone Creek Blonde, gold medal, Golden or Blonde Ale
