A rough rendering of what Pie in the Sky will look like
The arms race of local food innovation may have, unfortunately, jumped the shark. The Pinhook
has announced that it is partnering with Durham food truck institution Pie Pushers
for "Pie in the Sky," a permanent installation that will serve pizza and more from the roof of The Pinhook.
A press release issued this morning announced that, in addition to the truck, there will be a rooftop garden that will provide ingredients for Pie Pushers' pizzas. A chicken coop will provide eggs, and, eventually, wings. A selfie station, misting tent, and four-square courts are all set to be a part of the community-vibe-boosting effort, too. You'll be able to access the space via a pedestrian ramp on the south side of The Pinhook.
Neither Kym Register of The Pinhook nor Becky Jo Cascio of Pie Pushers were immediately available for comment. The Pinhook hosts Pie Pushers' fifth anniversary party tonight.
In the meantime, you can read the rest of the release below.
Way to find your cool, Durham.
For Immediate Release
The husband-wife duo behind Pie Pushers is set to launch their next revolutionary dining experience in downtown Durham by Fall 2016.
PIE IN THE SKY
Embracing the change that is to come to the downtown Durham Skyline, Pie Pushers is proud to announce their one-of-a-kind rooftop experience for Durhamites in the form of a rooftop food truck garden.
“Pie in the Sky” will permanently feature the Pie Pushers pizza truck, allowing the Durham entrepreneurs to step away from the mobile-food scene that they helped cultivate over the past five years and focus on pioneering Durham’s next wave of dining ingenuity.
AN ELEVATED EXPERIENCE
An industrial walking ramp on the building’s south side will offer access to patrons as well as to special guest trucks.
The Pie in the Sky menu will remain rooted with your Pie Pushers favorites, keeping with the fast-casual service style, while the garden will provide several features that will make you want to dine and chill.
In addition to a roof-to-table garden that will provide kale, peppers, basil and other produce for the truck’s ever evolving menu there will be space reserved for a chicken coop and range that will provide brunch biscuit eggs and eventually, wings! The spacious gardens will also feature a mist tent/oxygen bar for those sweltering NC summer days, a foodie selfie station for snapping pics of your delectable before you devour them and four-square courts for diners with a competitive spirit.
