There are two things all newbies need to know before attending this week’s performances by African American Dance Ensemble.
(Yes, there’s going to be a test. Don’t worry, though. It’ll be fun. Unless, of course, you mess it up. So don’t.)
1. In the Ashanti Twi language of Ghana’s Akan people, Ago (pronounced AH-go) roughly translates as “Listen up!”
2. The appropriate response? Ame (pronounced AH-may): “Yes, I’m listening.”
Practice it a couple of times before tonight. Trust me: it’ll come in handy.
