There are two things all newbies need to know before attending this week’s performances by African American Dance Ensemble.

(Yes, there’s going to be a test. Don’t worry, though. It’ll be fun. Unless, of course, you mess it up. So don’t.)

1. In the Ashanti Twi language of Ghana’s Akan people, Ago (pronounced AH-go) roughly translates as “Listen up!”

2. The appropriate response? Ame (pronounced AH-may): “Yes, I’m listening.”

Practice it a couple of times before tonight. Trust me: it’ll come in handy.

Coming tomorrow: In the Indy (on our sister website, Indyweek.com, and at newsstands everywhere—at least in Durham, Raleigh and Chapel Hill), our last word on Martha Clarke’s Descent of Man—whoops, Doorway to Hell—pardon, Garden of Earthly Delights.

Meanwhile, on the blog, video coverage of the weekend’s auditions. Plus—could there possibly be troubled waters ahead for Chelyabinsk Contemporary Dance Theater's performance this weekend—before the critics weigh in? Tune in. Ago!
