Wylie Hunter & the Cazadores, Onward Soldiers, Old Quarter, Debonzo Brothers, Caleb Caudle

When: Sat., Nov. 24, 9 p.m. 2012

Assembled by longtime Local Band Local Beer promoter Chris Tamplin, The Cardinal Collective is a loose association of acts from across the state that have varying ties to a roots aesthetic. Tamplin's goal is to increase both cross-promotion and collaboration. While much of the stable's roster hails from the Triangle (including the bulk of this bill) as well as absentees Jack the Radio and Some Army), it also draws from Wilmington (Onward, Soldiers), Winston-Salem (Caleb Caudle) and Charlotte (Temperance League, who's also missing tonight). "Eventually, I would love it to cover pretty much every [genre] I would look at when it comes to booking to LBLB," Tamplin says.

Caudle's plaintive country toe-tappers run with warm beauty, while Onward, Soldiers connects the dots between jangly folk-pop jaunts and vintage heartland rock. A pair of Raleigh acts flesh out the mid-card: Old Quarter gets atmospheric on bitter and brokenhearted barroom ballads, while the Debonzo Brothers' mature pop-rock musings shine through a twangy filter. Wylie Hunter & the Cazadores cap the showcase with a classic rock 'n' roll approach, in the vein of Tom Petty or Bruce Springsteen. Tickets to the 9 p.m. show are $5 in advance, $7 at the door. —Spencer Griffith
