RUMIFESTIVAL
THE ARTSCENTER—Now in its 10th year, this annual N.C. grassroots event celebrates the diversity of American Sufism and Islam. In this special "year of Rumi," the festival celebrates the 800th birthday of the Persian poet with a weekend of events that will culminate with Saturday's world premiere of Love Spirals, a participatory/ choreographed whirling dervishes performance. The festival begins at 8:30 p.m. with a program entitled "A Taste of Rumi," with opening remarks by UNC professor Carl Ernst, whirling, unplugged music by Hudost! and a preview of American Sufi, a locally produced documentary. For more information about the festival, which continues through Sunday, visit www.rumifest.com or call 475-6932. —Megan Stein

THE PROCLIVITIES, BULL CITY
THE CAVE—The Proclivities may be the Triangle's leading purveyors of front-porch indie rock. With relaxed hymns rooted in acoustic guitars and whistle-worthy melodies, The Proclivities build those songs to grand scale of fully fleshed subtleties. It's a wonder that Merge hasn't landed on a Proclivities hook. With Bull City at 10 p.m. —Rich Ivey
