APART FROM THAT
GALAXY CINEMA—Among the many reasons to appreciate Cary's Galaxy Cinema is its commitment to providing a space for critically acclaimed but obscure indie films. Tonight, Galaxy will present Apart From That as part of its Undiscovered Gems series, undertaken in collaboration with indieWIRE. Apart From That is set in the Pacific Northwest, in a weather-beaten, hardscrabble milieu that may resemble the worlds we saw in such recent Amerindies as Old Joy, Bubble and All the Real Girls. The non-professional actors improvised their lines, and co-directors Randy Walker and Jennifer Shainin assembled a loose episodic narrative that prompted Variety critic Robert Koehler to write, "Just beneath the surface is something plainly new, fashioned by young artists with a defiantly personal sense of visual design and pace, along with considerable sympathy for their exceptionally human characters." The film plays one show only, tonight at 7:15. Regular admission applies. Visit www.foreignamericanpictures.com and www.mygalaxycinema.com for more information. —David Fellerath
