DUKE CAMPUS—Gojira! The film series that brought about the destruction of thousands of balsa-wood scale buildings returns to its roots with Duke's screening of the restored 1954 Godzilla movie. For years, Americans were subject to a re-edited print with bad dubbing and an Anglo-friendly plotline with Raymond Burr (yes, TV's Perry Mason) providing portentous narration. With almost 40 minutes of footage restored, Godzilla is darker, creepier and more reflective of the post-Hiroshima anxieties that spawned the hit series. It's still great fun with a man in a suit, but now the darkness of the original film can be experienced in all its undubbed glory. The 7 p.m. screening in Griffith Film Theater at Bryan Center on West Campus is free. —Zack Smith
