In the Continuum
PlayMakers—PlayMakers kicks off its 2008-09 season with this provocative look at the AIDS crisis. Originating as a graduate school project at New York University, Continuum looks at two very different black women diagnosed with HIV. One, Nia, is a teenager living in South Central Los Angeles; the other, Abigail, is in Zimbabwe and is pregnant with her second child. Their individual experiences highlight the differences and similarities in their cultures and emotional problems with both sentiment and humor. The play has received international acclaim, including a Golden Tolerance Award from the United Nations. And despite its subject matter, virtually every review starts off the same way—"It's not depressing!" For more information, visit www.playmakersrep.org. —Zack Smith
