Raleigh
Christmas Love Baskets
Helping Hand Mission—It's easy to preach the virtues of giving this time of year, but at Helping Hand Mission in Raleigh, staff and volunteers will spend the afternoon of Christmas Eve putting it into practice. And they could really use some help. The nonprofit, which serves needy families, the elderly, disabled and other clients throughout the Triangle, helps create Christmas for those who can't afford it. From about 1 p.m. until all the goodies have been distributed, volunteers are needed to collect donations of food; toys and clothes; wrap gifts; package baskets of food and make deliveries. What better way to capture the real spirit of the season than to be an elf in Santa's Triangle workshop? Donations of new toys and nonperishable food items are also in desperately low supply and can be dropped off any time prior to Dec. 24 at 501 New Bern Ave. or 623 Rock Quarry Road, which is also the site of the Christmas Eve event.
