Wangechi Mutu: A Fantastic Journey

When: Thu., May 2, 6 p.m. 2013

"I'm not that fond of painting. I love cutting. I love using scissors. I love creating shape and almost drawing with a scissor or knives as opposed to a brush." That's Wangechi Mutu talking about her collage work in the exhibition A Fantastic Journey, currently on display at the Nasher. Kristine Stiles, a professor of art, art history and visual studies at Duke, delivers a First Thursday gallery talk on Mutu's collage, film and sculpture before a screening of The Triptych. The short film, directed by Terence Nance, features Mutu as well as artists Sanford Biggers and Barron Claiborne. —Chris Vitiello
