Viva La Punk Fest

When: Sat., April 14, 1 p.m. 2012

Clearly going for volume-discount appeal, this 15-band bill is headlined by pop-punk quintet Dear Cousin Muscles, who plead in their biography, "We started in 2008, and we're still grasping at anything we can find that'll shed a little light on us." Still, there are some solid sets. Pure Scum plays scrappy hardcore songs about hating the mall and going to school. Tuscon straight-edgers Step Aside revive Revolution Records-style hardcore. The Bastages feature members of '80s Durham punks Ugly Americans, keeping that band's aggressive melody and irreverent provocation intact. Brooklyn's Up For Nothing would fit Fat Wreck Chords' late-'90s stable. It all begins at 1 p.m. and costs $6. —Bryan C. Reed
