Twenty Twenty | NCSU Campus: Titmus Theatre | Dance | Indy Week

Twenty Twenty

When: Sept. 28-29, 8 p.m. 2012

You're going to look at these two people differently. One's African-American, the other's white. One's a little over 20, the other's turning 40. They differ in height and physical build, and there's a difference in their sexual orientations as well.

But both are dancers and choreographers, although Bryan Strimpel is at the start of his career, while Nicholas Leichter has dazzled audiences for years in Raleigh and at the American Dance Festival with his witty, hyper-articulate and hip-hop-influenced work.

Twenty Twenty represents a new page for both—a reduction to the essentials for Leichter, a collaboration with a modern dance ninja for Strimpel—in an evening-length work focusing on how difference plays out in age, race, sexuality and what polar opposites still have in common. For a taste, check their take on The Dream's "Sex Intelligent" at The intimate Titmus Theatre in NCSU's Thompson Hall should be a good room for the 8 p.m. performances Friday and Saturday. —Byron Woods
