WOLFMOTHER
LINCOLN THEATRE—Three Aussies with massive Orange amps and perfect tom rolls, Wolfmother rose above placement as either Ozzfest flotsam or hipster-metal-cred building blocks with one deceptively simple idea: Strong hooks pulled through fresh bongwater as Sabbath, Zeppelin and, who knows, Deep Purple spins in the background. True, they've inherited more psychedelic notions than the placement of their "Woman" on mod-rock radio betrayed, but they get to the point first and the sonics second. Live, these guys are capable of being completely triumphant. Tickets are $25 for the 8 p.m. show. —Grayson Currin

DIDO AND AENEAS
MEREDITH COLLEGE CAMPUS—Dido and Aeneas, composer Henry Purcell's foremost opera, tells the love story between Dido, Queen of Carthage and Aeneas, the Trojan Hero of Virgil's Aeneid. The Meredith College Opera Theater will present the opera today in Carswell Recital Hall. The free performance will be workshop abridged, with a descriptive narrative to explain the scenes. A reception will follow. For more info, visit trianglesings.org or call 760-8536. —Megan Stein
