April&George Art Bar and Wine Gallery (414 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh) is featuring a beer and cheese pairing at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 27 and Thursday, March 30, featuring husband-and-wife team Sam and Sunny McDaniel. Sam is a sales rep with the Gambrinus company and Sunny is april&george's head chef. They'll dish up info on artisanal cheese profiles, pairings and serving suggestions. Chef Jim Anile of Il Palio Ristorante of Chapel Hill is offering a cooking class featuring seasonal modern Italian recipes Monday, March 27 from 7-9 p.m. at Williams-Sonoma in Crabtree Valley Mall. Tickets are $35 per person. Reservations: 782-3145.

Chapel Hill Wine Company and La Residence team up for a Spanish wine dinner at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 29 at La Residence (202 W. Rosemary St., Chapel Hill) featuring wines from Spanish importer Patrick Mata of Ole Wine and a meal including pan-seared sea scallops, roasted quail and braised lamb shank. The cost is $65 through Chapel Hill Wine Company (968-1884) or $75 at the restaurant (967-2506).
