Therese Fowler

When: Thu., April 25, 7:30 p.m. 2013

Local writer Therese Anne Fowler has earned considerable attention for her new book Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald. Getting inside the head of one of literature's most famous muses, Fowler chronicles the story of Zelda's life with F. Scott Fitzgerald, showing her strength, the history and decadence of their experiences in the Roaring Twenties, and how it all fell apart. Fowler has earned acclaim for "righting the record" on Zelda, depicting Zelda's intelligence and support of her husband, and showing how alcoholism ultimately ruined both Fitzgeralds. Some reviewers have been less supportive of the portions of the novel dealing with Zelda's breakdown, but I think we can all agree that no matter your interpretation of this, it's likely to be better than that Great Gatsby film coming out later this year. Seriously, that thing looks drug-induced. — Zack Smith
