The Smell of the Kill

When: March 28-April 14 2013

One of those plays that make men in the audience instinctively cross their legs, Michele Lowe's The Smell of the Kill is a favorite of regional productions, perhaps because it taps into a fantasy of having life-and-death control over a domineering spouse. (I'm guessing; I'm still single but I've heard things.) Three wives bond in the kitchen while their offstage husbands act like Neanderthals; when the guys find themselves stuck in a meat locker, one of the wives has a very dark idea that she tries to convince the others to follow. This play teaches several valuable lessons, ranging from "respect your spouse" to "don't own a walk-in meat locker." —Zack Smith
