The Odd Life of Timothy Green

Rated PG 100 min. 2012

This pleasant family fable from Peter Hedges (Pieces of April) has some curb appeal: It's a live-action family film that explores both adult and child problems, and the kids aren't a bunch of wiseass, pop culture-referencing brats. But the script, from a story by Ahmet Zappa, may be too earnestly uplifting for its own good despite a luxuriantly rustic Georgia locale and a Capra-esque community of oddballs (played by such stalwarts as Dianne Wiest, David Morse, Rosemarie Dewitt and Ron Livingston). The plot? A childless couple (including Jennifer Garner, barren once again after Juno) writes down the attributes of the dream kid they can't have, plant the devotions in their garden and lo, their 10-year-old miracle son (CJ Adams) is born. He looks like a normal child ... except for the leaves on his legs. We're not kidding. If you're diabetic, feel free to "leave" right now.
