Raleigh
Scenes From American Life

Raleigh Little Theatre—A.R. Gurney is having a good run in the Triangle, with Sylvia earning raves for Hot Summer Nights at the Kennedy and Scenes From American Life now playing at Raleigh Little Theatre. The play takes the form of a series of eight disconnected vignettes that jump through the 1930s to the 1980s, featuring eight actors playing roles ranging from comic to tragic. While the play has dated somewhat since its first production in 1971 (Gurney's version of the 1980s has more to do with Orwell than Reagan), it somehow adds to the overall satirical impact. The production started Friday and runs through Sept. 20; tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for students and seniors, and $10 today, the first Sunday.
