Stormi Souter & Elizabeth Weichel

When: Wed., Aug. 28, 7:30 p.m. 2013

It hasn't been the proudest time to be from North Carolina *coughlegislaturecough*, but you can perhaps regain some of that community pride with two new books about the Triangle from people in the know. The Raleigh City Museum's Stormi Souter and Elizabeth Weichel present their new book, Legendary Locals of Raleigh, which highlights many of the individuals who have contributed to Raleigh's history and development, with surprises along the way. They're joined by Jennifer Dawn Farley, whose new book on Durham, Duke Homestead and the American Tobacco Company, examines the history of the Duke family and the legacy of tobacco on Durham (spoilers: great wealth and recognition; lung cancer). This will doubtlessly be more upbeat than that story about the Duke heirs in the latest Rolling Stone, which was kind of a blood-chiller. —Zack Smith
