Winter Holidays, Opening

St George & the Dragon

When: Dec. 20-22 2012

Jeremy David Clos adapts the classic mummer's tale for hiSTORY Stage at Burning Coal, and this might be the Most British Event this holiday season. This "composite version" of the classic man-vs.-flame-spewing-giant-reptile tale is crafted together from "surviving manuscripts and bits of old text, folk legends, medieval Christmas plays, and scenes from Edmund Spenser's Faerie Queen." I object to the lack of Mary Poppins in there, but this will do, I suppose. There's Father Christmas, madrigal dances, heaps of rhymed dialogue and more. Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursday–Saturday, with a matinee at 2 p.m. Saturday. Tickets run $10–$12. —Zack Smith

Price: $10-12
