RESEARCHING IS FUNDAMENTAL

College Search Series
It's that time of the year for many high school students (and parents) who are making decisions on where to attend college. Luckily, there's help on the way. On Thursday, Oct. 24, Queens University of Charlotte will sponsor a one-day College Search Series with education journalist Paul Boyer, co-author of Smart Parents Guide To College: The 10 Most Important Factors For Students And Parents When Choosing A College. The free seminar will examine ten keys to a quality education, including evaluating schools, nationwide model programs, questions to ask college recruiters and things to look for when selecting an institution. 7 p.m. Embassy Suites, 4325 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh. (800) 849-0202 (ext. 2331) or admissions@queens.edu to RSVP.

A STARRY NIGHT GALA

Jupiter Ball
On Saturday Oct. 26, UNC-Chapel Hill's Morehead Planetarium and Science Center will host the Jupiter Ball, an annual black-tie fundraising event. The evening gala features the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle and the Bill Bolen Band, star-gazing (weather permitting), dinner and dancing. Special guests are former WRAL-TV anchor Charlie Gaddy--who narrates the Center's new production Star of Bethlehem--and wife Nancy. Proceeds from the ball will benefit Morehead's children's educational programming and outreach. 7 p.m. Morehead Planetarium, 250 East Franklin St., Chapel Hill. $125. Contact Carrie Spinelli (919) 843-7952 or spinelli@email.unc.edu to purchase tickets or for more information.
