Raleigh
Santa Monica '72, aka Goodtime Charlie
Slim's—You heard it here first: Big-rock cover band Goodtime Charlie has a new name, and it's Santa Monica '72. Although an element of surprise is crucial in cover-band circles, you should also know that Santa Monica '72 is the alter ego of Raleigh's Nevers, a music-lifers outfit whose classic-rock vibe transforms small clubs—and they don't get much cozier than Slim's—into arenas. The code of silence prohibits the release of specific song titles, but you will hear cuts from Badfinger, Bowie, Thin Lizzy and Cheap Trick. The rock will cost you $3, and it starts at 10 p.m. —Rick Cornell
