Robot Rumble

When: Sat., April 13, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. 2013

Even in an age of everyday intelligent machines, the classic image of the robot persists in our collective consciousness. Durham's Museum of Life and Science devotes a fun-filled day to the celebration of and speculation about robots with events and demonstrations throughout the museum building and grounds. Requiring advance registration, LEGO robotics workshop sessions are a highlight. Kids program sophisticated machines to navigate an obstacle course. The nationally known Carolina Combat Robots battle and also play bot hockey with you. Or you can take a crack at controlling the SeaPerch, an underwater unit. Younger robot enthusiasts can enjoy crafts activities, the Hex Bug and vintage science-fiction robot toys. See the museum's website for a full schedule of events. —Chris Vitiello
