Composer and pianist Richard Smallwood has made a career of sharing gospel joy with audiences and congregations for more than 30 years. After founding Howard University's first gospel group, Smallwood went on to achieve dual success as a musician and minister. His debut album, The Richard Smallwood Singers, spent 87 weeks on Billboard's gospel chart. He's had multiple Grammy nods. Aretha Franklin, Yolanda Adams and Destiny's Child have covered his music.
Solo, Smallwood pairs personal vulnerability with stunning piano work. With Vision, a choir of 21 incredible voices, Smallwood reaches symphonic heights. The religious becomes the rapturous. Most weeks, Smallwood shares that talent at his home church, Metropolitan Baptist in Washington, D.C., where he serves as associate minister. He brings Vision to Durham for a captivating evening of praise music. —Ashley Melzer
