Rachael Ray

When: Mon., Dec. 10, 6 p.m. 2012

We know it's not cool to have a fondness for Rachael Ray, who has been unfortunately and unfairly anointed as the emblem for everything that's wrong with American cuisine today. (There are far worse offenders, such as Paula Deen, who had to get type-2 diabetes for her to realize her attack-inducing recipes are awful. And not's let forget Guy Fieri, whose Times Square restaurant was the recent recipient of an entertainingly scathing New York Times review.) 30 Minute Meals, the daytime Food Network show that launched Ray's career, remains fun to watch as she scurries around the kitchen finishing up dishes you'll probably never make at all, let alone in less than half an hour. (Plus, when Ray's show concludes in the afternoon, you can switch over to the Cooking Channel and watch Nigella Lawson on Nigella Kitchen. Gotdamn, that's a woman!) Ray will be in town talking about her latest book, My Year in Meals. The 6 p.m. event costs $5. —Craig D. Lindsey
