Nouvelle Vague, Yasmine Hamdan

When: Tue., Oct. 30, 8 p.m. 2012

What:

Nouvelle Vague approaches 1980s new wave anthems as if they were 1960s bossa nova standards. By creating this most charming form of musical regression, the French cover duo of Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux played midwife to a rebirth of sorts of the French chanson tradition, boasting an array of female vocalists who put a torch-song twist on XTC, Joy Division, The Clash, Modern English and Echo & The Bunnymen. Beirut singer Yasmine Hamdan opens; her history of mixing underground electropop and Arabic music means she brings her own eccentricities to the night. —Sylvia Pfeiffenberger
