Clubs & Concerts, New Year's

NC Symphony

When: Mon., Dec. 31, 8 p.m. 2012

New Year's Eve offers a time to wax nostalgic while tipping a few back. The North Carolina Symphony churns up the memories, turning the baton over to jazz impresario Jeff Tyzik for a fun program of Big Band classics. The music of Glenn Miller and Duke Ellington, driven by guest drummer Dave Mancini, mingles with sweet Viennese melodies on this last night of the year. You can take the kids to the early acorn drop and hand them off to the sitter in time to make the symphony's 8 p.m. show. Visit ncsymphony.org for tickets, which range from $18–$70. —Chris Vitiello
