Cold Sides CD release party with Cantwell, Gomez and Jordan

Cold Sides began as local musician Zeke Graves' "sample-laden" side project, with assistance from Eric Cope (Graves and Cope were part of Three Stigmata) and The White Octave's Robert Biggers on guitar and vocals. For their live gigs, Cold Sides recruited V. Sirin's David Bahm on bass and keys to thicken up the band's self-described "murky rock songs." Already with an EP to their credit, the "group" recently released their eponymous debut full-length on Chapel Hill's Moment Before Impact Records. Exploring textures, alternate tunings and unexpected dynamics--with songs that build and then veer in mysterious directions--Cold Sides' music is a departure from what most consider the Chapel Hill indie rock sound. Join the band to celebrate their CD release party this Friday, Feb. 1, at Go! Room 4 in Carrboro. Local trio Cantrell, Gomez and Jordan, who do an inspired version of Billy Joel's "Only the Good Die Young," open the show. Call 969-1400 for details. --Angie Carlson
