LeAnn Rimes with the NC Symphony

When: Thu., May 30, 7:30 p.m. 2013

What:

Given how long she's been a star, it's strange to realize that LeAnn Rimes turned 30 only last year. Remember, she was just 13 when she broke through in 1996 with the country chart-topper "Blue." Country turned out to be too small an arena for her mass appeal, as the following year's pop smash "How Do I Live" attested. On the whole, she handled the spotlight better than similar teenage phenoms, though lately Rimes has garnered headlines mainly from her spat with reality-TV parasite Brandi Glanville (the ex of actor Eddie Cibrian, now Rimes' husband). The North Carolina Symphony returns the focus to her music with this program of highlights from the singer's dozen-album catalog. If Rimes' songs tend toward melodrama and histrionics, at least such characteristics are suited to such orchestral backing. —Peter Blackstock
