Jean Luc Leroux, Grass Strings

When: Wed., July 17, 9 p.m. 2013

For Jean-Luc Leroux, a Parisian who lives on the South Pacific island of New Caledonia, country music is an all-consuming passion. He's a deft mandolin player and seasoned songwriter, as well as a dedicated country music DJ. In this capacity, he serves an almost ambassadorial role, disseminating music ranging from 1920s bluegrass to the Eagles to George Strait. A similar spirit of inclusivity permeates his recent Country Lagoon, which zings familiar traditions with a soupcon of Gallic seasoning. The Grass Strings, a venerable bluegrass outfit formed in Kannapolis, N.C., during the Ford administration, bring time-tested tunes and down-home harmonies. —David Klein
