International Noise Conference: Laundry Room Squelchers, Lazy Magnet, Spare Child, Housefire, Yohimbe, Clang Quartet, Cantwell Gomez & Jordan, Secret Boyfriend, Jeff Rehnlund, Lambskin, Y Fuego Mod, Mecanikill, Sagan Youth, Focus Group, others

When: Wed., June 19, 7 p.m. 2013

If you missed out on Savage Weekend, last month's eclectic Chapel Hill noise music festival at Nightlight, here's a partial do-over. Many of the same acts—Lazy Magnet, Secret Boyfriend and Sagan Youth Boys, to name a few—perform at this Chapel Hill stop on the International Noise Conference tour. Locals curate bills that are headlined by INC founder Rat Bastard, whose set with his band Laundry Room Squelchers may involve live amplifiers being hurled around the room. The local booker is Ryan Martin, a versatile noise musician who founded Savage Weekend as well as the Hot Releases record label, and he has stuffed the lineup with the possessed passion plays of Clang Quartet, the noise rock of Cantwell, Gomez & Jordan, the formidable drone of Cornelius F Von Straffin III, the death sax of Crowmeat Bob and a couple dozen others. Savage Weekend was originally inspired by INC's festivals in its home base of Miami, where many noise musicians play short, intense, back-to-back sets. But unlike at Savage Weekend, you won't hear much resembling techno at INC, which more narrowly defines what noise means: loud, harsh and chaotic. —Brian Howe
