Are the scissors in the woman's hand the tools of her trade, or a weapon? Is the man behind the door her future victim, or a welcome guest? And who, exactly, are the cats looking at? Drawing on influences from Romare Bearden to Balthus, Durham artist Kathryn DeMarco produces life-size works (pictured) that illustrate her fears and obsessions. From March 24 through May 12, Craven Allen Art Gallery will be exhibiting over 20 of her mixed media collage paintings and drawings. DeMarco has also created a print, "Outnumbered and Surrounded by Cats," with proceeds to benefit Independent Animal Rescue of the Triangle. The gallery will also donate 10 percent from the sale of each original work. There will be a reception for the artist March 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. Call 286-4837 for details.
